What an interested Memorial Day weekend we had in Phoenix.

As you probably remember, my brother-in-law's Nissan was stolen about 2 weeks ago now.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

It looked like this (which some of you may remember because you made fun of his red (which look pinkish online) wheels):

We were out there for a long weekend Thursday-Monday. Well it showed up on a closed AZ Phoenix "street" car facebook page in this shape on Friday:

So, it was beat to hell, spray painted, bullet holes in it, system of course yanked out of it (including a nice set of two 12 inch subs and amp) and then ditched in the desert. A guy out riding quads found it, took a picture and posted it online as a "wow, sucks to be you" and people in the group recognized the car and got a hold of my brother-in-law right away.

The only problem was finding it again, took forever to hear back from the original poster about the general location (which is all we got) we were trying to make guesses to location based off the mountain range and everything.

So we got out there (thankfully armed giving it was starting to get dark) and hiked about 30 minutes into the desert where we found it near an old rock/gravel quarry. I took down the Lat/Long coordinates and we hiked back out. We didn't want to touch it and the Sheriff's department said they were too big of wimps to come out to the location in the dark, they said they'd go in the morning giving the specific location info now. Note they would not go looking for the car in the general area we were provided, we had to find it.

So they met up with the Sheriff's department out there the next morning (of course once we had the coordinates there was a quicker way to get to the car than the 30 minute hike WE took haha, that's the way it goes) and got a flatbed out there to yank it out.

The interesting bit is that there happened to be a set of security cameras owned by the construction company that owns the gravel pit area. We'll see if we can find any info out about who took it if the cameras are any good, though the Sheriff warned us they were far from high quality cameras.

yea unfortunately we had a feeling this would be the end result. Kid looked crushed when he saw the pictures of it destroyed and left in the desert. It was the first car he bought and paid for 100% himself (He's only 18)

It also said "who's loud now" on one side and had "fag" on the hood (shocking)

He had 2 15" subs in it previously, downgraded to 2 12's so I think it may have been a jealousy thing, or "I got showed up" thing. Also possible someone heard him go thumping into the Walmart parking lot it was stolen from and they were pissed they heard loud music so they took it.

He's had a bunch of cars but this was the first time he paid for everything and was trying to be an "adult" about it.

yeah, I guess it's a decently well traveled area by quad. The trails are too skinny for anything bigger than a quad or one of those side by side guys.

We ran into another group on quads when we first got to the area, they had seen it too and pointed us in the right direction.

He's real into the "Street" scene there (yeah I just threw up a bit typing that) so when it was posted a bunch of people tagged him and said "Hey isn't this your car dude!?" Crazy though. It hadn't been out there too long because the door was open and it was chiming as if he left his key in the ignition/left headlights on. pic was posted to Fbook around noon/1-ish and we didn't get to the car until about 7-8 that night, was still chiming.

yeah it was almost as if they were trying to get a "movie explosion" by targeting the gas door while shooting it.

They were apparently oblivious to the tanker that was next to it with "Flammable" placards on it...definitely idiots.

They did get 2 Rockford Fosgate 12" subs and a nice amp out of the deal.

Terrible... I'm about 20 miles north of Avondale and we're struggling with the same nonsense up here. I have a pretty hefty anti theft system on my ram so they just wrecked the interior out of frustration and left. Hope his insurance company treats him fair. Cops in my case didn't do shit, but since they shot his car up and the tagging can be interpreted as threatening I hope they do a little leg work to track them down.

I kinda got the impression the Sheriff's weren't planning on doing shit. I bet their plan is, oh well he has insurance it'll be totaled he'll get a check oh well. I hope I'm wrong, but that's what it looks like to me.

wow! That's crazy far south, I'm out there near the nuclear plant at palo verde for work occasionally. Really close to rainbow valley and the I8 drug corridor dangerous area super remote. Yea the mcso out here pretty much made a report over the phone and never bothered coming out but usaa is a pretty squared away and took care everything quick. When your BIL gets wheeling again he's more than welcome to come out with us to cars and coffee in Scottsdale or one of our cruises around town sometime.

If this car was stolen from West or South Phoenix, the likelihood of it being someone other than a high school student is very high. The ones still in high school are the smarter ones.
